My first experience in Indian classical music

I had the honor to meet and work with vocalist Sudhanshu Sharma, harmonium player Abhishek Sharma and tabla player Arvind Pandey, thanks to the efforts and vision of artist Zena el Khalil. It was certainly my first (brief) attempt at exploring the language of ragas, and rendering it on the oud.

During our performance at Masrah el Madina (Beirut, June 26 2016), I improvised (khayal) on two pieces: one in raga Yaman, and one in raga Kirwani (equivalent of our Nahawand) which was fused into Asmahan’s song “Ya Habibi”.

A very enriching encounter; hoping to take a leap one day to truly explore Indian classical music.
